Welcome to Another School Year

I want to welcome everyone back to a new school year. Staff has been in all week getting ready and are excited to get underway. This, like all years, promises to be an exciting. We are very pleased to be a part of the early adoptor schools in the province that a leadership role with the adoption of 21st Century Learning. As part of this all students in grades 7 and 8 will receive their own individual netbook to utilize both at home and at school. Technology will continue to be integrated as part of the learning process and as appropriate.

All students will be returning to school on Tuesday, September 7. Our morning program will begin on Wednesday. on Tuesday morning we would like all our grade six students to enter the school through the main entrance and into the gymnasium. They will be the first to see our new gym floor! There teachers will be there to meet and greet them. Parents are welcome to accompany their child if they wish.

Allergy Alert - We have students with severe alleries to peanuts, fish and or seafood. Any minimal contact with the product and its derivatives may cause anaphylactic shock (severe allergic reaction) and unconsciousness. In such a case, the allergy may even cause the student’s death.

We are required to apply practices that reduce the possibility of exposing the students to these substances that can provoke a severe allergic reaction. Our personnel has been informed of the situation and notified of appropriate measures in case a student suffers an anaphylactic shock.

We ask your co-operation in order to reduce the risk for those students who are allergic to: peanuts, nuts, fish, seafood and cinnamon. We ask that you insist that your child(ren) will wash their hands before leaving for school, because the slightest residue of allergen may trigger an unfortunate incident to a severely allergic classmate. This is a situation that requires the attention of all. We are requesting your help by asking that you not send any products containing peanuts, nuts, fish and/or seafood and cinnamon to school.

Once again, Cashless Schools is available at Devon Middle School" for all students. This is the preferred method of payment for all fees (student fees, field trips, sport fees etc.)

School Photos will be taken on Friday, September 9.

Any child wishing to ride their bikle to school is required to wear a helmet and bring a bkie lock. We no longer can store bikes inside the school.

Looking forward to seeing all staff and students on Tuesday moring.

Bus Changes for Nashwaak Valley & Killarney Road

August 25, 2010

To Parents of Students in the Nashwaak Valley & Killarney Road Areas:
Repair work and closure of the Durham Bridge was expected to be finished prior to the start of school, however, we have been advised this is not possible.
The following school bus route changes are implemented to minimize the effect of the bridge closure on school bus routes as follows:

Mornings:
Bus #29 will begin its run 5 minutes earlier at approximately 7:10 a.m. on English Settlement Road, Route 8 to Highland Heights Estates picking up grades K-12 students. Bus #29 will meet Bus #122 at the former Taymouth school and transfer all students to Bus #122 which will continue its regular route to Nashwaak Valley School. Bus #29 will continue picking up grades 6-12 students on Route 8 from Taymouth to Durham Bridge. Bus #29 will then travel via Killarney Road picking up grades 6-8 students from Hogans’ Paving, Lakeside Estates and Killarney Road as far as Brookside Drive – these students would usually have travelled on Bus #122. There is no expected change in pick-up times for students in the Killarney Road area.
Bus #122 no change to regular pick-ups in the Nashwaak Valley area except to meet Bus #29 at the former Taymouth School. At Nashwaak Valley School, Bus #122 will load with middle school students and expresses to Devon Middle and Nashwaaksis Middle schools via Penniac Bridge.
Bus #35 no change to regular pick-up times on Route 8 or Killarney Road. Once regular pick-ups are done, Bus will continue on Route 8 to Taymouth picking up Nashwaak Valley Elementary School students that would normally have travelled on Bus #29. Bus #35 will travel Route 628 to Nashwaak Valley School to drop-off and continue on to Alexander Gibson Memorial and Devon Middle School. This bus will likely be 10 – 15 minutes later than last year arriving at schools.
Bus #9 – no change, except will take LHHS students from Nashwaak Valley School to LHHS in place of Bus #29.
… see over

Afternoons:
No changes in the afternoon for middle school students.
The change for LHHS students is that buses will meet for transfer at the former Taymouth school instead of Nashwaak Valley school.
For Nashwaak Valley School students:
Bus #29 – students for Zionville Road will travel on Bus #138. Bus #29 will deliver students for Highland Heights Estates and Route 8 between Taymouth and Killarney Road.
Bus #38 – students for Route 628 toward Penniac Bridge, Route 8 from the church to and including Killarney Road.
Bus #138 – no change for Upper and Lower Durham Roads, except delivering students for Zionville Road off Bus #29.

We will monitor the impacts of these changes and make adjustments as necessary. Thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation during these opening days of school. If you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at 453-2672.
Yours truly,

Shelley McLeod, R.S.B.S.
