Devon Middle School NetBook News...

We have a special announcement to make that will impact all of our grade 7 and Grade 8 students. We are very pleased to announce that our student netbook take home project has been scheduled for roll-out beginning December 1st - 3rd. What this means is that all students in Grades 7 & 8 will each be issued a netbook computer that will accompany them home each day. In order to inform parents, we are going to have a very special parents meeting at Devon Middle next Wednesday, November 24th from 6:00PM - 7:00PM. We encourage all Grade 7 & 8 parents to come and hear the specifics of the program from District officials and school staff. Please mark this important date on your calendars so that we all can move forward together.

Sincerely,
Gary Gallant
Principal

Food Sensitivity and Allergy Update...

As part of the ongoing efforts of Devon Middle School to provide meaningful information to our community, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all parents, guardians and caregivers in helping us provide a safe eating environment for all of our students. As you are aware, we have asked families to refrain from sending foods containing nuts/peanuts, shellfish, seafood/fish and cinnamon with their children to school.  While we cannot guarantee that these foods are not in the school it should be noted that we are asking for your continued cooperation in this regard in order to provide the safest venue for all of our students. You, the parents of our students, have done a fantastic job of helping us out!

Since we have been asked for some clarification, and to clear up any confusion, we should say that we are allowing students to have prepared lunches that do contain all types of mayonnaise and egg products. In addition, prepared products that have label disclaimers saying "May contain trace nuts" are permitted in the school.

The school administration will continue to be updated by families facing food allergy challenges. Should there be changes in their children's status we will inform the community at large as to what changes to our existing guidelines may occur.

Once again. thank you for your help with these sensitive issues.

Gary Gallant, Principal

Head Lice Update...

Hi everyone, every so often schools have to deal with problems around head lice and Devon Middle is no exception. Over the past couple of days we have a seen a small number of cases of "nits" (egg form of lice) in the school. In order to be as proactive as possible we are encouraging parents to do head checks at home for nits. Please download the following documents for information on treatment and frequently asked questions...
